Between online publications, industry analysts, blogs, and social media influencers, the breadth and depth of payments industry news sources can be a bit overwhelming. Wondering where to get your daily fix? We asked members of BillGO’s Leadership Team to chime in on how they stay au courant about all things payments-related. Read on for some of their top picks.

“I look to Ron Shevlin for a snapshot of what’s going on in the world of fintech and financial services — and he does a great job of covering the payments arena. His weekly column in Forbes, the Fintech Snark Tank, tells it like it is, with just the right combination of data, insights, and biting humor.”

“My morning coffee is never complete without a look at PaymentsJournal to see what the industry is buzzing about. Whether it’s a podcast or article, this source provides great insights as to what’s going on in the payments space. As for digging into the details, the team at the Aite Group led by David Albertazzi provides great stats and insights related to retail banking and core banking technologies. Their reporting is always relevant and applicable to our ever changing market, and never disappoints when it comes to providing great nuggets of data.”

—Sara Sisenwein, SVP, Client Relationships

Glenbrook is one of the best sources for consolidated payments news in the industry. George Peabody runs their Payments News roundup, Payments Views blog, and Payments on Fire podcast with an eye for insights and a focus on impact. Glenbrook is a one-stop shop, no matter whether you’re looking for exclusive research, industry headlines, or professional development opportunities like webinars and workshops.”

“I get my mind moving in the right direction each day by setting up Google news alerts based on specific keywords, then filtering through the results. I’m also committed to connecting with at least one industry colleague, partner, or friend weekly to share new ideas and feed my knowledge base. Other resources I couldn’t do without include Pymnts.com (anything by Karen Webster is a must-read) and The Financial Brand (I look to Jim Marous for his razor-sharp focus on a range of key issues facing banks today).”

—Jay Plueger, SVP Product & Alliances

“So many choices! I’m a big fan of The Strawhecker Group (TSG), which lines up the latest fintech, regulation/security, and economic highlights via their weekly Newsfilter. Digital Transactions is another favorite; its editor John Stewart does a fantastic job serving up insights about the electronic payments scene.”

—Ken Salazar, Chief Sales Officer

“I look to the Nilson Report and publisher David Robertson for info on the payments industry. He and his team do a great job of consolidating large amounts of relevant industry information into an easily consumable format.”

“In addition to gathering news from a host of payments industry publications, I also like to keep an eye on the Wall Street Journal. The breadth of its coverage means it’s a great source for both specific payments content and information about adjacent spaces.”

—Ryan Howe, General Counsel

“I supplement news from leading industry publications with updates from various legislative and regulatory resources and industry groups like the OCC, CFPB, and GovTrack. Doing so gives me an understanding of where the winds may be shifting in the payments space, and helps me ensure BillGO is always ready to meet the latest compliance standards.”
