What is a multi-swipe card?

A multi-swipe card lets you use a single virtual card across multiple charges instead of running the full amount in one swipe.

This is helpful when:

  • One customer payment covers multiple invoices

  • You want to close some invoices now and others later
  • One invoice is disputed but the rest are ready to close
  • You have authorization limits or card-issuer restrictions per transaction

Do I have to use multi-swipe?

No. This feature is completely optional

If you prefer to:

  • Run the entire card amount in a single swipe, or

  • Continue processing payments exactly as you do today

You are free to do so. Multi-swipe is available only when you need it

Does this cost anything extra?

No.

Multi-swipe is a free feature. There are no additional fees for running a card multiple times.

How many times can I swipe a card?

Right now, the number of swipes is capped at:
Number of invoices associated with the payment + 3 additional swipes

This limit exists to prevent accidental overuse and protect payment integrity. We may revisit this cap in the future based on customer feedback.

Do my swipe amounts have to exactly match invoice amounts?

No.

Your swipe amounts:

  • Do not need to equal invoice amounts

  • Can be larger or smaller than individual invoices

Matching swipe amounts to invoices can be helpful for reporting, but it is not required. In a future update, you'll be able to label what each swipe is for, making reconciliation even easier.

What happens if I don't use the full card amount?

Any unused amount will be returned automatically once the payment completes.

You don't need to take any action—unused funds will not be lost.

What payment statuses will I see?

You may notice different statuses while using a multi-swipe card:

  • Authorized

    • The card has been approved, but no charges have fully settled yet.

  • Partially Settled
    • Some of the card amount has been used, but funds remain available.
  • Settled
    • The entire card amount has been used and completed.

These statuses help you track where a payment stands as swiped are processed.

Can I turn multi-swipe off?

Yes. At this time, you can disable this feature by reaching out to our support team at 1-800-941-8997. In the future, we will make this self-service.

You can also turn it back on later if your needs change.

What happens if I do nothing?

Nothing changes unless you choose to use it.

Multi-swipe simply makes additional flexibility available when a card supports it. You remain fully in control of how each payment is processed.
